How to care for your Leather jacket?

The best way to ensure that your leather jacket stays supple, soft, smooth and clean is to treat it like the valuable item that it is. Such as how often to waterproof or condition the jacket. There are also some general guidelines to keep your leather jacket in good shape.

Keep your jacket dry. Avoid wearing your leather jacket in rainy weather. If it does get wet, make sure that you hang it out to dry immediately before putting it away.

Hang your jacket correctly. Never leave your jacket folded for a long period of time, as this can encourage creases and cracks in the leather. Instead, hang it on a wide, preferably padded hanger in a well-ventilated closet, never in the sunlight, as that can quickly discolor the jacket.

Use a leather conditioner. Leather will always naturally lose some of it moisture, but using a reputable leather conditioner on finished leather can prolong its life.

Use of Alcohol. Do not apply hairspray, perfume, or cologne while wearing your leather coat. The alcohol will dry out and stain the leather.

How to clean Leather Jackets?

Damp Cloth. Using a damp cloth is the old reliable when it comes to leather care. Since leather is so very naturally durable anyway, giving it a wipe down (without soap as its chemicals can ruin the leather over time) once a week to get rid of the dirt and dust.

Conditioner/Cream. Leather conditioners are lotion-like and are to be gently rubbed into the leather. The hide will soak up the conditioner, just like your skin would soak up a moisturizer. Always try on a small area first before doing the entire jacket. Do this every 4 months.

How to remove Wrinkles from Leather Jackets?

Iron it carefully. Set your household iron to low. If there are still wrinkles on the jacket, lay the jacket down on the ironing board and place a piece of cotton fabric over the wrinkled area of the jacket. Run the iron gently over the cotton fabric to smooth out the wrinkles. Keep the iron moving at all times to avoid scorching the leather.

Warning !

Do not use high heat on the leather jacket, as this may damage the fabric. Test the heat from the iron on an inconspicuous spot before running the iron over the entire surface of the jacket. Avoid using a hand-held steamer or applying direct steam to the leather.
